Story (spoiler-light)
Peddi is set in a remote village in north Andhra Pradesh whose people have no official recognition – no records and no rights that the government will acknowledge. Peddi, a labourer with extraordinary natural athletic talent, turns that talent into a weapon: if the village cannot get noticed any other way, perhaps sport can force the world to see it.
The film is framed as a story told in the present day, when a sports official goes looking for the man that young athletes from the region credit as their inspiration, and then travels back to Peddi's past. Along the way there is cricket, wrestling under the guidance of a mentor played by Shiva Rajkumar, a romance with Achiyamma (Janhvi Kapoor), and a long fight against the powerful men who control the area. Reports differ on the exact period – pre-release coverage spoke of the 1980s, while later plot summaries place the main story in 1994.
The film is reportedly inspired in part by a real local athlete, with the director turning that story into a larger-than-life commercial drama.

Box office
Peddi had a huge opening. The makers claimed about ₹135 crore worldwide on day one, while some trade estimates were lower (WION reported about ₹112.5 crore), so the exact figure depends on whom you ask. Reports put its worldwide gross at more than ₹330 crore after its first month. According to reports, it became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2026 so far, though it did weaker business outside the Telugu states.
What critics said
Reviews were mixed, but nearly every critic agreed that Ram Charan carries the film with a physical, committed performance. A. R. Rahman's score was widely praised, as were Shiva Rajkumar and Jagapathi Babu. The main complaints were the length, an uneven screenplay and predictable turns. Ratings ranged from 3.5/5 (Hindustan Times and others) and 3/5 (Gulte) down to 2.5/5 (Pinkvilla) and lower.
The biggest talking point was Janhvi Kapoor's character. Critics and viewers objected to how Achiyamma was written and filmed, including a romantic scene many called non-consensual. Buchi Babu Sana publicly apologised and said the contentious portions would be trimmed or changed.
