Enna Vilai story (spoiler-light)
Thavasimuthu, called Thavasi, is a poor fisherman in Rameswaram. One day he finds a valuable gold pendant washed ashore and hands it over to a local police officer. According to the published synopsis, the officer is corrupt: he takes a precious stone from the pendant and then accuses Thavasi of stealing it. Caught in a case he did not see coming, Thavasi has his family's name and his liberty at stake.
Kanchana, a lawyer, takes up his case and has to prove in court that the fisherman is the victim of a set-up, not the thief. The film's title roughly translates as "What price?", and the story asks what honesty costs a man with very little to his name. We stop there; the court case and how it ends are the rest of the film.

Sajeev Pazhoor won a National Award for his Malayalam screenplay before turning director. The film was shot in Rameswaram, with later schedules planned at Gokulam Studios in Chennai and Ramoji Film City, according to The South First. Before its release, it was announced for festival screenings abroad, including the Atlanta Indian Film Festival in the US and the Kaia International Film Festival in Turkey, as reported by DT Next and Telangana Today.
The certification made news too. Several outlets reported that the director was surprised the film got a U/A certificate, since he considered it a clean family film and had asked for a U.
Reviews and reception
Reception has been mixed. The Hollywood Reporter India review, headlined "An Initially Promising Drama That Overstays Its Welcome", praised the premise, the lived-in early scenes set in Rameswaram and the performances of Karunas and Nimisha Sajayan. It was less happy with the courtroom stretch, which it found repetitive and clumsily staged, and with a convenient, melodramatic third act.
The streaming release has been kinder. Gulte recommended it as a worthy content-driven watch, pointing to its realistic story and strong performances. FPJ described the theatrical response from audiences as mixed. In short: worth a look if you like slow, grounded social dramas, less so if you want a sharp legal thriller.
