Shivam has tried to leave his violent past behind, but the crime world is not done with him. Pulled back into it, he finds himself caught between rival gangs – including one led by the ruthless Nafisa – and drawn to Zara, a young woman who wants to escape her family's criminal life and follow her love of music.
Along the way Shivam forms an unexpected bond with a young child, while memories of Aaliyah, the woman from the first film, still haunt him. At its heart, Awarapan 2 is about redemption, love and sacrifice – the same themes that made the original so loved – told with bigger action this time.

How it connects to Awarapan (2007)
The original Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri and starred Emraan Hashmi as Shivam, a gangster's loyal right-hand man, with Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, Ashutosh Rana, Ashish Vidyarthi, Shaad Randhawa and Purab Kohli. Its tragic love story and soul-stirring soundtrack turned it into a cult favourite over the years – which is why a sequel was announced on Emraan Hashmi's birthday in March 2025.
The sequel has a new director in Nitin Kakkar, but it keeps Shivam at the centre and brings back Shriya Saran and Shaad Randhawa, so fans of the first film will catch plenty of callbacks. You can enjoy it on its own, though it hits harder if you remember the original.
Box office
Awarapan 2 turned out to be a big hit. It opened with about ₹22 crore net on day one – a career-best opening for Emraan Hashmi – and ended its first week at roughly ₹113.5 crore net in India, according to trade reports. That made it the first Emraan Hashmi-led film to enter the ₹100 crore club.
Why watch it
Reviews were mixed on the script, but almost everyone agreed on one thing: Emraan Hashmi is the beating heart of the film, bringing back Shivam's quiet rage and pain. Shabana Azmi adds weight as Nafisa, and the soundtrack keeps the emotional, music-led feel of the original.
