The Conjuring universe is the most successful horror franchise of its era: nine films, from The Conjuring (2013) to The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025), built around the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. With spin-offs about a cursed doll and a demonic nun, the order can get confusing. Here is the release order, the story (chronological) order, the real cases behind the main films, and which Conjuring movies you can watch on NoWireTV.

Which Conjuring movies are on NoWireTV?

Three of the four main Warren films are on NoWireTV, on the website, the Android app and Android TV / Fire TV:

The other films in the table below – the Annabelle and Nun spin-offs and The Devil Made Me Do It – are not on NoWireTV right now. We list them so you know where each one fits.

9The Nun II20231956No
10The Conjuring: Last Rites20251986Yes

*Whether The Curse of La Llorona counts is a long-running argument. It brings back Father Perez from Annabelle and briefly shows the Annabelle doll, so many fans include it. But it was sold as a separate film and is usually left out of the nine "official" titles. Watch it or skip it; you won't miss anything you need for the main story.

Conjuring movies in chronological (story) order

  1. The Nun – 1952, Romania. Where the demon Valak comes from.
  2. The Nun II – 1956, France.
  3. Annabelle: Creation – 1950s. How the doll became cursed.
  4. Annabelle – 1970.
  5. The Conjuring – 1971, Rhode Island.
  6. Annabelle Comes Home – 1972, the Warrens' house.
  7. The Curse of La Llorona (optional) – 1973, Los Angeles.
  8. The Conjuring 2 – 1977, London.
  9. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – 1981, Connecticut.
  10. The Conjuring: Last Rites – 1986, Pennsylvania (with a prologue set years earlier).

Which order should you pick? For a first watch, go with release order – the scares and reveals were designed to land that way, and the Nun films make much more sense once you have met Valak in The Conjuring 2. If you only want the Warrens' story, the four main films work on their own: The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, The Devil Made Me Do It, then Last Rites.

The real cases behind the main films

Every main Conjuring film is marketed as "based on a true story", taken from the files of the real Ed and Lorraine Warren. The films take big dramatic liberties, and each case has been questioned by sceptics – worth knowing before you take the "true story" label literally.

The Conjuring (2013): the Perron family

Roger and Carolyn Perron and their five daughters lived in an old farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island, in the early 1970s and said it was haunted. The Warrens claimed the house was troubled by the spirit of Bathsheba Sherman, a real woman who lived in the area in the 1800s. Historians and local accounts say there is no evidence she was a witch – the film's version of her is fiction. The eldest daughter, Andrea Perron, has written books about the family's experience and has defended the Warrens, while saying the movie exaggerated events, including its big exorcism scene.

The Conjuring 2 (2016): the Enfield poltergeist

In August 1977 Peggy Hodgson, a single mother in Enfield, north London, called the police about furniture moving and knocking noises in her council house. The activity centred on her daughters, especially 11-year-old Janet. The main investigators were Maurice Grosse and Guy Lyon Playfair of the Society for Psychical Research. The Warrens' part is disputed: Playfair later said they only made a brief visit and did not really investigate. Sceptics point out that Janet was caught on camera bending spoons and that both girls admitted to some pranks, though they later took that back.

The Devil Made Me Do It (2021): the Arne Cheyenne Johnson trial

In 1981 Arne Cheyenne Johnson was tried for murder in Connecticut, and his defence argued he had been possessed – the case the third film is built on.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025): the Smurl haunting

Jack and Janet Smurl lived in a double house in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, and reported years of noises, smells and attacks they blamed on a demon. The Warrens investigated in 1986, and the case became the 1986 book The Haunted and a 1991 TV movie. Sceptic Paul Kurtz called it a hoax, and a later owner of the house said she saw nothing unusual. Last Rites adapts the case loosely.

Is Last Rites the end of the Conjuring universe?

Last Rites was billed as the Warrens' final case and the farewell for Wilson and Farmiga. It opened to about $194 million worldwide, a record opening for a horror film, and became the biggest film in the series. Warner Bros. has since dated a prequel, The Conjuring: First Communion, for 10 September 2027. Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix play the young Ed and Lorraine, Rodrigue Huart directs, and Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg (writers of Last Rites) wrote the script. Which real case it will follow has not been announced. A Conjuring TV series for HBO Max is also reported to be in development.

Frequently asked questions

What is the correct order to watch the Conjuring movies?

For a first watch, use release order: The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II and Last Rites. The Curse of La Llorona is optional.

Which Conjuring movies can I watch on NoWireTV?

The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2 (2016) and The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025). The spin-offs and The Devil Made Me Do It are not on NoWireTV right now.

Do I need to watch Annabelle and The Nun before Last Rites?

No. The main Warren films tell their own story. The spin-offs add background on the doll and on Valak, but Last Rites makes sense without them.

Is The Conjuring a true story?

It is based on the Warrens' account of the Perron family haunting in Rhode Island, but the film adds a lot of fiction, and sceptics dispute the Warrens' cases.

Is Last Rites the last Conjuring movie?

It is the last film with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens so far, but a prequel, The Conjuring: First Communion, is dated for 10 September 2027.
