The true story: Battle of Rezang La
In November 1962, during the war between India and China, Charlie Company of the 13th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment was posted at Rezang La, a high mountain pass near Chushul in Ladakh. Led by Major Shaitan Singh, the 120 soldiers faced wave after wave of attacks in bitter cold, with limited ammunition and no chance of reinforcements.
They fought almost to the last man, and most of them gave their lives. Their stand is remembered as one of the bravest in Indian military history, and Major Shaitan Singh was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest award for gallantry, after his death. The film's title honours those 120 brave men.
